What is a Superscore on the ACT ?

For those taking the ACT, it just sometimes happens that one section doesn’t quite shine like the others. Well, that is when superscoring (or “stacking”) comes in handy. Superscoring is when a college or university allows a student to submit each highest section score for creating a “Super” score. In other words, if a student takes a test multiple times he/she can pull the highest English, highest math, highest reading and highest science to create a score that truly represents their ability—instead of their ability on just one day.
Here is one scenario:
Test one                Test Two               Test three                                      SUPERSCORE
English 25             English 35             English 34                                     English 35
Math 26                 math 28                 Math 30                                         math 30
Reading 20           reading 30             reading 28                                     reading 30
Science 28           science 26             science 32                                     science 32
Composite 25      composite 30         composite 31                                 composite 32

Whether a school superscores for admissions OR scholarships (or both!) is entirely up to the individual school. It is also important to check each school’s deadline for submitting additional ACT scores after applying. Some schools allow students to submit scores until they start college in the fall! This means more attempts to reach a higher score for in-state tuition waivers or merit scholarships. I have also seen situations that allow a student to be given credit for a college class (in these cases it was English classes) due to high ACT scores in that area.

To summarize, testing early and often gives students the chance to improve scores and reap some of the many benefits of high test scores.

The ACT Lady

Jennifer Henson ( a.k.a “The GOAL DIGGER”) is a nationally sought after test prep expert specializing in the ACT test. Jennifer, who was Winton Woods City School’s (OH) Teacher of the Year in 2014, holds a Master of Education degree with a Bachelor’s in English from Xavier University—where she was a walk-on tennis player. She’s taught 22 years and coached ACT prep for over 12 years– and has an army of teachers trained to assist her requests for tutorials. Her former ACT students now attend notable higher learning institutions, including Notre Dame, Dartmouth,  The Ohio State University, Texas A&M, The Naval Academy, and the University of Kentucky—among others.

Jennifer has assisted students from California to Connecticut—and states in between—to reach their personal ACT goals. No score is too low or too high, as she has doubled the scores of students starting at the low end, in addition to helping initially higher scoring students achieve the coveted 36 on every section of the test. Two young men playing D1 football had a composite score of a 9 originally, and scored 18 and 20 (respectively) after working with her. Three of her former clients now have NFL experience, one is making her mark in the WNBA and three are MLB players!
